Fanciers should be taking precautions as regards the releasing of pigeons for exercise.
The current regulations are that in Northern Ireland pigeons should not have an open door or be kept out during the day and must at all costs stop wild birds from mixing with their racers.
Fanciers that are putting baths out must have them in a covered area where no other birds can get access to the water or food.
This outbreak is the worst case of avian flu in Ireland and everyone should tighten their biosecurity.
DAERA staff is working 24/7 all regulations can be viewed on the messages fanciers are receiving weekly from them.
The DAERA website has been updated and is very easy to access as there is a paragraph regarding racing pigeons that shows the guidelines required.
